St. Margaret's has been working with Young People for several decades
- the Youth Club alone has been going for more than 25 years! However,
in 2003, the Church experienced some real problems caused by young people
frequently congregating in their memorial garden. Rather than just throwing
the young people out, the church began to look at ways in which the
church could do something to work with these Young People.
|
Much discussion then ensued, as the church consulted with the localauthority,
the local police, with members of other churches, and with the Young
People themselves. Finally, St. Margaret's set out to employ a full-time
youth worker. Following advertisements, applications, and interviews,
a youth worker was appointed to begin work in September 2004.
The aim of the Youth Project which has grown out of the original idea
is very simple: “The Youth Project aims to develop relationships and
activities which enable young people to grow spiritually, socially,
mentally, and physically”. This aim is enacted in three main areas:
within the church, within the wider community, and within schools.
